Few weeks ago a friend from Argentina came to visit Ecuador. When I asked him what was the best food that he tried, he told me about the tree tomato juice, so this blog post is dedicated to him and all of our friends that came and tried it.
In our suite apartment near Quito, we have plenty of green areas and trees. One of them is a tree tomato.
This fruit is well known in andean countries like Ecuador, Colombia, Chile, Bolivia and Perú.
As I knew by the Internet, this tree is in danger of extinction. You can make juice, desserts and a wide variety of sauces with it, like a tasty spicy sauce that we could try for a next blog post.
For our tree tomato juice we will need
- 5 Tree tomatoes
- 1 liter of cold water
To prepare tree tomato juice, once we picked 5 orange/red tree tomatoes 100% organics, we have to wash and cut them with a knife to left them without hull or skin. It’s important to prepare it without skin because it could give a bad taste once we liquate it.
Put them without hull in the blender and liquate it for 2 minutes with cold water and sugar.
Use a sifter for the seeds. You can use them to plant your own tree tomato later.
Serve cold in a large glass with your breakfast.
You could buy tree tomato in the local markets, supermarkets and fairs in Quito.
